Fate of 756

4:30 PM -- Fashion designer Marc Ecko won the auction for Barry Bonds's 756th home run ball -- the one that broke Hank Aaron's record -- and has decided to put its fate up to vote.

Ecko won't be keeping the ball he paid $752,467 for. He appeared on daytime TV today to announce he's either sending it to the Baseball Hall of Fame -- possibly branded with an asterisk -- or shooting it into space. Given that outer space is the new playground for billionaire geeks, I think he's serious about that.

Normally I snub this kind of stunt, but Ecko seems to want to generate real discussion, not just stir up Bondsian vitriol one way or the other. Plus, it's cool that Ecko doesn't belong to a fantasy league.

If you care, cast your vote here.
