Wrapping up its best first quarter in company history, Cox Communications reported that it ended March with strong growth in all three of its core product areas.
Cox, now the nation's fourth largest MSO after selling cable systems with more than 900,000 subscribers to Cebridge Connections last month, says it boosted subscriptions to such non-video services as high-speed data and cable telephony by 26% over the past year. As a result, the company closed out Q1 with 3 million cable modem and 1.8 million digital voice customers.
At the same time, Cox says it increased digital cable subscriptions by 14.3% over the past year. The company ended March with 2.6 million digital cable subscribers, which amounts to nearly 50% of its basic cable base.
Finally, Cox increased its number of two-product bundled subscriptions by 8% and its number of triple-play customers by 41% over the last 12 months. The MSO now has 3.2 million customers, or 54% of its total, who take at least two services. Of these, 1.2 million subscribers opt for all three core services.
