Cablevision Will Sell Sprint PCS Service

Following in Time Warner Cable's footsteps, Cablevision Systems has become the second major North American MSO to start hawking cellular phone service. Cablevision unveiled a deal with Sprint Corp. Mon. to offer Sprint PCS wireless service through the MSO's Optimum Store Online site. Cablevision's New York customers who buy Sprint wireless service from the online store will receive a $70 rebate for each phone line that they order. Only Cablevision subscribers can access the site. But Cablevision is not offering the wireless product as part of its cable bundle of services, at least not yet. Company officials say they're still exploring a converged wireless service. Time Warner is now trying out a linked wireless product with Sprint in the Kansas Cty market.
