CableLabs Okays 3 DOCSIS 1.1 Modems

In a novel twist, CableLabs has certified two new DOCSIS 1.1 cable modems and re-certified another 1.1 modem for use in network monitoring. Each of the three approved devices incorporates transponders that use DOCSIS protocols to measure the online status of such active network components as cable amplifiers. As a result, cable operators could use DOCSIS to monitor their networks for data, voice and even video delivery. AM Communications and Tollgrade gained certification for their new DOCSIS 1.1 modems. Electroline earned re-certification for its existing 1.1 product. The approvals are part of the initial results from CableLabs' Certification Wave #31.
