5:00 AM -- BlackBerry CEO Mike Lazaridis had an amusing little insight Wednesday night into how the company tried to keep its new $200 phone a secret for the three years it took to design the product. (See RIM Polishes Its Pearl.)
Engineers testing the device around town had to hide it in a special cover designed to make it look like a much bulkier phone. "We called it the ugly sock," cracked Lazaridis. "People would look at it and say: 'Those poor guys'."
