Tahoe Loses Bodies

Tahoe Networks has cut its headcount from 118 to 100, according to board member Dennis Barsema.

But things aren't stopping there, he says. Soon the wireless infrastructure vendor will hire two new sales people -- one for Europe and one for Asia -- to increase its chances of winning overseas business.

Barsema took the helm at Tahoe at the beginning of this year (see Nouveau CEO for Tahoe?).

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies Unfortunately the market for the Tahoe product is just not there, at least not to justify the VC investment.

Market traction is for Nortel and Cisco (these days). Tahoe may just not have enough differentiation to be justified. And what's true for them is all the more so for their other startup competitors

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies Fully agree...

Potential customers of #Tahoe like products" don't put their eggs in a fragile startup basket, they want to rely on the (bigger) pockets of the big guys (Nortel/Cisco)...That's why slowly more and more deals can be seen where startups products are selected by operators, but are sold via the existing biggies, either as OEM or even through buying a startup (for some peanuts)...So be careful "Tahoe's" out there..

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies I would assume they are hoping to be bought out by Nokia.

Why else would a small startup have an office in Tampere, Finland?

P.S. Hey, you never know, Nokia HAS canned the Amber product, anything could happen in the wild and whacky world of wireless routers. Although you would think that a more GPRS-focused company like Megisto would be a better fit.

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies There is an additional Finnish factor for Tahoe...Called Radiolinja - see story at link below:

Could be killing two birds with one stone.

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies Culturally Tahoe is a better fit for Nokia; lost of former Nokia people at Tahoe

Megisto does not have a differentiator sufficient to go for a startup

Whatever happened to Jules Meunier at Proquent. An extra CEO swap can't be a good sign

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies Ah yes, Sandcherry, (www.sandcherry.com). They do speech-enabled apps for carriers or something equally dull. But for this editor, the word "sandcherry" will always bring up evocative images of misspent teenage years in lovely Southend-on-Sea.

Happy days! On those few weeks of the year where the temperature on the beach actually went above freezing, we had late night parties in the dunes.

You get the picture...

BTW, the company Sandcherry might actually win our unofficial award for most over the top use of boxes on a website. Blocky!

re: Tahoe Loses Bodies Klaus is director of RF engineering and spectrum management at SiteSafe (http://www.sitesafe.com), which doesn't exactly sound like a laugh riot.

But Klaus's name made this editor snicker long and loud into his morning coffee, so he makes the cut.

Puerile? Moi?
