SAN JOSE, Calif. -- ONI Systems(TM) Corp.
(Nasdaq:ONIS - news), a leading provider of optical telecommunications
systems for
the metropolitan and regional markets, today announced that during the
first quarter of 2001 Qwest Communications International Inc. continued
to deploy ONI's
ONLINE(TM) transport platforms in several additional U.S. cities. Qwest
Local Broadband Division, which initially purchased ONI equipment in Q2
2000, is leveraging
ONI's ONLINE(TM) transport platform to now deliver OC-192 (10 gigabit
per second) services to its metro customers, providing an optical
foundation for next
generation wavelength services.
Bob Jandro, executive vice president of Global Sales and Services for
ONI, said, "Qwest is a customer that pushes us to rapidly deliver high
quality products. In this
case, Qwest started with a foundation of ONI platforms running up to
OC-48 speeds. They then upgraded to OC-192 as customer demands grew. ONI
is proud of our
numerous, successful deployments with Qwest - and now their
implementation of our latest metro technology."
