Look Out Cable, Here Comes Google

Search giant Google unveiled plans to open a 'Google Video Store' at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show. Coming soon to http://video.google.com the service will be a searchable 'open video marketplace' enabling consumers to buy and rent a wide range of mainstream and niche video-on-demand (VOD) content CBS tops the list of Google's initial video content suppliers. The network will supply primetime hits like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NCIS, Survivor and The Amazing Race, as well as library classics like I Love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, The Twilight Zone, MacGyver, My Three Sons, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. All CBS programs will be presented commercial free, and primetime programs will be available for purchase on-demand the day after they air. Google also inked a deal with the NBA to make games available on-demand games 24 hours after the final buzzer. Music videos from Sony and BMG are also on tap.
