- Level 3 has won Smooth Streaming deals with Microsoft that Akamai, with whom Microsoft signed an exclusive agreement in last year, has forgone, in favor of waiting for Microsoft to work out the kinks. "We're more risk averse than some other providers... Some other CDNs might roll out a product and then there might be problems," says Tim Napoleon, chief strategist for media at Akamai. "But we're not going to live with something that doesn't pass muster."
- Video management firm thePlatform has stolen some business away from its rival, Brightcove: The Travel Channel will now be using thePlatform to manage video clips from a number of its popular shows, such as Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Man vs. Food.
