Drunks Outwitted Again

9:10 AM -- These are slow days for Texas law enforcement officials, to judge from this Reuters story:

Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.
A diabolically crafty sting operation, but still: 30 drunks in 36 bars? Not much of a ratio, Texas.

Very curious usage of the word "infiltrated" in the news story. Do I infiltrate my house when I walk through the front door? Have I infiltrated the sidewalk by stepping on it?

Definite signs of infiltration inflation are occuring. Makes me want to drink.

re: Drunks Outwitted Again I've infiltrated a bar or two. This involves wearing a fedora. Rubber nose and glasses optional.

I assumed it was a note that they were smoking - and not Camels as a way to be incognito.

re: Drunks Outwitted Again See! That's the problem with the English language when words sound alike and are spelled diferently it gets confusing.

The folks at LightReading should know better on this one. You InPHILtrate a bar and you infiltrate a terrorist cell.

In either case though, rubber nose and glasses are still optional.
