Comcast announced that it topped the 200,000 mark for cable IP phone customers at the end of 2005. The MSO apparently had a red-hot fourth quarter. Comcast counted only 83,000 IP phone subscribers as of September 30, after adding 46,000 in Q3. It looks like Comcast added some 120,000 IP phone customers in Q4, nearly tripling its prior quarterly run rate.
Of course, Comcast's acceleration still only puts the cable giant on par with Cablevision Systems, an MSO that's a fraction of its size. Cablevision added 122,000 IP phone subs in Q3. Both MSOs trail market leader Time Warner Cable, which has clocked in at 240,000 net adds in Q2 and Q3.
Comcast reiterated its 2006 guidance, saying the MSO expected to add at least 1 million IP phone customers this year. Time Warner Cable finished 2005 with over 1 million, leaving Comcast in the dust.
