Clearwire Cleared for Takeoff

5:00 PM -- Clearwire LLC (Nasdaq: CLWR) has had its first Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) WiMax laptop card approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) . This should be good news for the company since it makes it more likely it can sell Internet services to high-end consumers and business people in its coverage area.

Just to be clear though, this is not a mobile WiMax card but rather one that supports "nomadic" services. This doesn't mean you can only use one in the Kalhari but rather that you can move between radios just as you would with WiFi hotspots.

Meanwhile, Clearwire has been getting into a spot of bother over building rights in its home town even as it tries to tidy up in Iraq.
