AT&T Makes Healthy DSL Gains

AT&T closed out another quarter of strong DSL gains, netting 425,000 new broadband customers in the final three months of 2005. While the total didn't come close to matching the telco's record pickup of 528,000 DSL customers in Q3, it still ranked as one of its better performances and matched the company's gain in the same period a year earlier. More notably, perhaps, AT&T reported that it boosted its DSL/Internet revenues to $719 million in the fourth quarter, up 21% from $594 million in the year-ago period. The company credited much of the revenue increase to customer upgrades to higher-level tiers. With its latest gain, AT&T ended 2005 with 6.92 million broadband subscribers, narrowing the gap between it and Comcast Corp. In a rebound of sorts, the company also reported that it added 38,000 satellite TV subscribers for EchoStar in the quarter, boosting its overall video customer count to 457,000.
