Now Wait for Wireless Broadband

2:00 PM -- Does anyone still think that the 700Mhz auctions will happen on time? I'm starting to think we're going to bust right through that January 2008 deadline myself.

Verizon Wireless is now suing the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over the "Open Access" rules they set for the spectrum sell-off.

Understandable, if irksome. Verizon doesn't want to loose its ability to lock customers into long-term contracts.

But I can't help thinking the suit might be bad for Verizon -- and the other major carriers -- if it delays the 700Mhz auction. Simply because it will give Sprint Corp. (NYSE: S) more time to establish its WiMax network without any serious competition in its way.
