Will Users Pay for Web Video?

4:45 PM -- Today on Contentinople:

  • Walt Disney CEO Robert Iger has said that he might push for Hulu, in which Disney is a partner with NBCU and Fox, to begin charging for access to its content. "There's plenty of room for people to spend more money for things they are doing online," Iger said. "I think it is wrong to assume that because there is a lot on the Internet that is free that it is going to be impossible to monetize" content.

  • Online video platform provider Ooyala might be looking for a new CEO. "Early on when we started the company, when we brought on our first angel investor, he said that somewhere along the line we might need to bring in someone new to build the company to scale," current CEO Bismarck Lepe told Contentinople.

And in today's News Bits, Amazon is acquiring Zappos.com

Am I the only one that hears the phrase "Let them eat cake..." echoing in my head when I hear a CEO, who makes obscene amounts for medicore performance, utter such a comment...he is aware Disney just sent ~2000 people (in the Orlando area alone) to the unemployment roles a few months back, right? No doubt they will all be forgoing food and shelter for online content.
