Small Telco Will Build All-Fiber Network

Another small phone company is going the all-fiber route. Falcon Broadband, a competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) based in Colorado Springs, CO, announced a deal with Wave7 Optics Mon. to build a fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) system. Falcon will use Wave7's new Trident7 optical access platform for the network, which will pass 22,500 homes in the Colorado Springs area. Falcon, which has more than 250 miles of fiber running through Colorado Springs and the nearby town of Falcon, said it has made numerous deals with developers to connect new homes and businesses with the Trident7 system. With thousands of homes and commercial buildings already under contract, the CLEC said it expects to sign up thousands more in the next several months.
