Pandora to the Rescue

7:00 AM -- Sometimes to get a story finished you really need to block out the world. Especially when you work in an office where the company song is regularly and spontaneously sung by happy employees (C-M-P, the place for meeeeeeeee) and disembodied voices frequently pipe up to inform you that those blaring sirens were "just a test."

I've tried various methods of creating my own personal space: booze, chocolate, huge headphones, slowly muttering just a little too loud to myself so that people will leave me alone.

But my new favorite method is the interactive radio station Pandora, which lets you pick an initial artist or song to kick off a "station" and then picks other songs by different acts that share some musical DNA with your initial choice.

I'm not really sure how it works, and it makes some crappy choices sometimes, but if you hit a good run you can shut out the world for hours.

Beats mumbling anyway.
