MWC: Nortel LTE

9:40 AM -- Nortel Networks Ltd. must have known that it hadn't won the Verizon Wireless LTE contract, even as it talked up its proto-4G prospects in recent weeks, which leads me to wonder if they have any kind of LTE rabbit in their hat. (See Nortel Keeps LTE Dream Alive.)

Verizon is deploying LTE in advance of domestic rivals and international rollouts in 2010 and so was the best hope of getting LTE revenues in early. (See MWC 2009: Verizon Picks LTE Vendors.)

That's not to say that AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and T-Mobile International AG aren't working towards LTE in 2011. (See MWC 2009: T-Mobile Gets Real on LTE and MWC 2009: AT&T Plots LTE in 2011.)

It seems to me, however, that Nortel needs to start selling LTE gear as soon as possible. So, do they have some other deals we don't yet know about?

re: MWC: Nortel LTE no they do not - just BS similar to their WiMAX BS

that said they will continue to spew crap right up to the time when they say "we changed our strategy..."

if they come out of bankruptcy they need to do so with new leadership. assume Enterprise is spun off and maybe Metro. perhaps these business can self-sustain and even grow?

So how would they fund LTE? that would need to be separated out (so not to drag down Enterprise/Metro) and then need funding to make one big bet and hit it. Well with current Mgmt they certainly would miss - so any sensible investors would not make such a bet without new management. even then the challenge is pretty big...
