Mobile Storage: You Know Where You Can Stick It?
Sony Corp. is stepping up its efforts to provide the miniature storage format of choice, adding the Japanese mobile giant to its customer list as it launches a smaller, more powerful version of its Memory Stick. NTT DoCoMo will use it in a combined mobile phone and digital camera.
The battle to set the standard for mini storage widgets has recently become a three-horse race among different technologies – the Secure Digital format, CompactFlash, and Sony's Memory Stick.
Handheld maker Handspring Inc. had tried to go it alone with its Springboard module technology. However, on Monday, Handspring threw in the towel and said it will adopt Secure Digital cards in its new devices.
