Look Who Wants Italian WiMax

NOON -- The Italian Ministry of Communications said it received applications of interest from 48 companies for the upcoming 3.5 GHz broadband wireless spectrum auction. See here for the translated version of the Ministry's announcement. (See Italy's WiMax Auction Arrives.)

The usual suspects are there: Telecom Italia (TIM) , Fastweb SpA (Milan: FWB), and Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA . But interestingly, Vodafone Italy and 3 Italia did not apply. (See Vodafone Signs on for WiMax and Vodafone's WiMax Creep.)

And there are two intriguing names on the list as well: BT Italy and Alcatel-Lucent Italy. Hmmm...
