3:30 PM -- FiOS Tracker caught crazy Jim Cramer's interview with Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg last night and came away with a few bits for those of you who couldn't hear Cramer loud-talking all the way to Montauk:
Seidenberg says Verizon does not need to follow Comcast's lead and purchase a TV network and would rather continue to focus on making sure Verizon has the best network. Apparently he wasn't impressed with FiOS Tracker's suggestion for a Disco channel. (See FiOS Tracker.)
Have you heard all the complaints about the lack of customer service for new and potential FiOS subscribers? Seidenberg had an interesting explanation. He says Verizon markets heavily in New Jerzee, since FiOS is widely available in that state, and that much of the advertising spills over to nearby New York City, where FiOS is still just a word that rhymes with Mylos. So all the New Yawkas flood the phone lines trying to sign up for a service that isn't available to them yet. "Whaddya tawkin about it ain't available," said Sal from Brooklyn.
Finally, Seidenberg put on a brave face about the iPhone which is set to launch exclusively with AT&T on June 29. He said iPhone customers will compare the product to the Verizon lineup. Insert your own: "Nothing but a bunch of dull RAZRs" joke here.
