Italian triple-play provider Fastweb added 80,000 customers in the first quarter, bringing its total to 794,000 as of March 31, 2006. It marks the company's best-ever quarterly gain and an increase of 74% over the same period in 2005. Molto benne! Fastweb offers a competitive mix of data, voice and video services mostly using DSL technology running over local loops leased from Telecom Italia.
Fastweb also unveiled two new Internet service options this month to lure even more customers. The first is Fastweb Easy, an Internet-only "naked DSL" service priced at 40 euros per month. Fastweb says the offering is targeted at the 17% of Italian families that choose not to subscribe to fixed line telephone service, and instead, rely on mobile services. The second is Super ADSL, a 20-Mbps Internet service based on ADSL2+ technology. Fastweb's standard DSL offering is a 6-Mbpsdownsstream and 1-Mbps upstream service.
