Nokia's erstwhile head of product marketing for smartphones has left the company, reports Bloomberg, just weeks after the company had to apologize for misleading advertising of its flagship Lumia 920 phone. Telefónica Digital, the hyperactive, opportunity-seeking unit of the Spanish giant, has itself launched a new global unit, Telefónica Dynamic Insights, to exploit "anonymised" mobile network data it collects from its smartphone users. Its first product is Smart Steps, a system for retailers wanting to better manage and keep tabs on footfall in their outlets. MegaFon, Russia's second-largest mobile operator, is planning an initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange, reports Reuters. When the share sale was first mooted last month, analysts estimated that it could raise around $3 billion. The IPO is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter.
Shares in South African operator MTN Group Ltd. have been hit by the dramatic fall in value of Iran's currency, reports Reuters. MTN, which derives nearly a tenth of its revenues from Iran, saw its shares drop 3.7 percent in Monday afternoon trading in Johannesburg.
