Euronews: Dec. 31

Ray Le Maistre

As the European telecom sector prepares for what it hopes will be a better year, there's encouragement for the region's major mobile operators and a wake-up call for British cell phone users.

  • In revenue terms, 2011 could be a watershed year for Europe's mobile data service providers, reports The Wall Street Journal.

  • The Guardian reports that millions of UK mobile users are overpaying for their services, according to a Which? survey.

  • A universal phone charger standard has been embraced by the European Commission and backed by 14 manufacturers, reports Information Week.

All that remains, then, is for Euronews to wish you all a happy, safe, and prosperous 2011.
