Dirty Laundry: The Upstarts

2:00 PM -- Alidian Networks. Tachion Networks. Gotham Networks. What did they have in common?

All these companies, and many more, were picked as optical networking "Upstarts" to watch at Supercomm 2000. More than likely, the distinction was given because of a special startup pavilion under which each company purchased booth space.

The memories of Supercomms gone by came rushing back as I unearthed a special "Upstarts" T-shirt during my semi-millennial closet cleaning this weekend.

I also found a pile of General Bandwidth-sponsored concert laminates. It was next to my pile of RealNetworks-sponsored laminates. Exactly how close did companies come to just handing out $100 bills that year?

Anyway, here's the T-shirt's front and back.

re: Dirty Laundry: The Upstarts The Upstarts also had a comedy show starring Martin Short. To give an impression of how successful it was, I still have an unused drink ticket.
