Clearwire to Launch in Vegas on 21st
The company has been selling wireless services online to Las Vegas residents since June. It took that "soft launch" approach in Atlanta, too, which went live in June. (See Clearwire Goes Soft in Vegas and Clearwire Goes Live in Atlanta.)
Portland, Ore., rounds out Clearwire's trio of mobile WiMax markets.
The company hasn't said anything definite about network speeds and service pricing in Glitter Glutch, but it seems reasonable to expect offerings similar to what Clearwire has in Atlanta.
There, Clearwire says customers can expect download speeds of 4 Mbit/s to 6 Mbit/s, with bursts exceeding 15 Mbit/s. The pricing scheme has two tiers: one for home Internet use and one for mobile, starting at $20 per month and $40 per month, respectively. A day pass is available for $10.
Clearwire hasn't said what markets it plans to launch in next. Unstrung has seen some signs that Dallas or Seattle could be next on the list of markets. But Paul Kapustka from Sidecut Reports predicts a Chicago launch in September. (See Clearwire Gearing Up for Dallas & Seattle?) — Dan Jones, Site Editor, Unstrung
