Cisco's Convergence Boomerang
Take the whole femtocell/home base station concept, which some are pushing as the new thing. I was reminded today that, back in 2000, Cisco bought a company called JetCell for $200 million.
Apparently, JetCell did indoor wireless coverage systems for corporate users with technology that was fairly relevant to the current mini-base station craze. I wonder what happened to the technology...
It would be mildly amusing if Cisco ended up investing or buying into similar stuff again as some have suggested it will. It just doesn't pay to be too far ahead of the curve in wireless sometimes. (See Cisco Eyes Home Base.)
