MILPITAS, Calif. -- Blue Sky Research, a privately held developer and manufacturer of high-performance, cost-effective optical network components, announced a significant footprint reduction to the packaging of its EPM980 Coolerless Laser Pump Module for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs). Based on a compact Transistor-Outline (TO) package housing the diode, the overall EPM980 package design is sized for direct replacement of standard butterfly packages. While the EPM980's performance, efficiency, and established reliability remain unchanged from the original design, the new, more compact footprint allows OEMs even greater flexibility in its application. In addition, the new external design is simpler to manufacture, further improving its price/performance advantage.
