BigBand Lands Four More Chinese Customers

BigBand Networks has found a home away from home in China. The Silicon Valley-based tech vendor has inked deals for its broadband multimedia-service router (BMR) with four more Chinese cable operators in the past week. In the latest pact announced earlier today, BigBand signed up Top-Digital TV of Beijing, a cable provider operating in Beijing and several other major regions, as its newest customer. Top-Digital said it's deploying the BigBand BMR as part of its rollout of all-digital programming over the next two years. The Top-Digital deal comes just six days after BigBand announced three other deals with Chinese operators Luoyang Radio and Television Information Network, Lanzhou Radio and Television Information Network and the new Wuyang Iron and Steel's Digital TV project. These cable providers, with a total of more than 1 million subscribers between them, are also using the BMR for their rollouts of digital video service. With these four new deals, BigBand has now signed up seven Chinese cable operators in the past year.
