Apple's Sour Note

7:00 AM -- It's been a big news week for Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) -- CEO Steve Jobs announced further medical leave, then the company reported staggeringly good fiscal first-quarter results. (See Jobs Takes Medical Leave From Apple and Apple Slams Tablet Rivals as its Q1 Soars.)

But it's not all sweet as Apple pie for the company. While the iPhone vendor revels in its strong quarterly results, Belgium's antitrust authorities are being urged to embark on an investigation into the possible abuse of Apple's dominant position in the digital newspaper market, reports EurActiv.

Belgium's economy minister believes Apple's strategy of selling exclusive newspaper subscriptions for the iPad through its online iTunes store is unfair. An investigation in Belgium could lead to a wider probe by the European Commission , which has already undertaken an antitrust investigation of the company.
