Leap Wireless Reveals Ambitious Plans

While Leap Wireless International Inc. (Nasdaq: LEAP) is nowhere near the big four in terms of coverage or subscribers, the regional carrier is taking aggressive measures to expand.

The company, which is the parent of Cricket and Jump Mobile, already has a wireless footprint that covers about 61.7 million people. It is hoping to bump that to 120 million people by 2010, executives said last week during the CTIA Wireless tradeshow.

To hit these expansion goals, the company is planning to expand aggressively into new markets. It has already expanded to four new markets this year, and hopes to soon launch in cities like Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Baltimore...
