Tsunami Plans CWDM Chips

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Tsunami Optics, a developer of innovative fiberoptic components tailored for emerging applications in the Metro/Access marketplace, today announced its first products and the direction of its first product line, as well as the addition of Optical Application Specific Integrated Chips (Optical ASICs) to its toolbox of technologies.

The introduction of Tsunami Optics’ family of Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) products will enable equipment manufacturers to create flexible WDM systems with the right balance of cost and performance for emerging Metro/Access Networks. Specifically, Tsunami Optics is developing multiplexers, demultiplexers, fixed and fully-configurable (switchable) add/drop multiplexers for coarse WDM.

Tsunami Optics further announced that the company has begun development of products using Optical Application Specific Integrated Chips (Optical ASICs). These integrated diffractive optics use semiconductor lithography create components that manipulate light in many ways within a single integrated element. This technology enables Tsunami Optics to make highly integrated, heavily automateable fiberoptic components, tailored for the emerging Metro / Access market.
