MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced Bell Canada will deploy the Tekelec EAGLE 5 Signaling Application System (SAS) and integrated network monitoring platform to address the evolving signaling requirements associated with enhancing its core network infrastructure.

The EAGLE platform will provide a comprehensive signaling network solution for Canada's largest operator. The solution provides highly reliable call control and network security and supports signaling services such as toll-free, calling card and mobility management. It will increase the capacity of Bell Canada's signaling network significantly as well as lower the total cost of ownership through substantially reduced floor space, power consumption and maintenance requirements.

Tekelec also is providing a network-wide monitoring solution, which will feed critical business intelligence data required for applications that run the carrier's customer care, call center operations and customer settlements processes.

"Tekelec's EAGLE platform helps support Bell Canada's transition to the future, while reducing costs to maintain and operate its signaling network," said Fred Lax, Tekelec's president and CEO. "The addition of the integrated business intelligence capabilities supports mission-critical business applications, which enable the recovery and protection of revenues."

Deployment of the Tekelec EAGLE and monitoring solutions will begin in late 2005. Bell Canada is replacing legacy signaling and monitoring equipment with the Tekelec solutions.

"Bell Canada's decision to select Tekelec for its signaling and network monitoring solutions is a powerful demonstration of our leadership in signaling and transition solutions," added Lax. "Our market-leading EAGLE platform and integrated, real-time business intelligence solutions are enabling most of the world's largest carriers to reduce operational costs, achieve greater insight into subscriber behaviors and desires, and manage and protect revenues."
