OSLO -- T-VIPS AS, a global leader in professional video management and distribution, with advanced solutions for the contribution & distribution of broadcast quality video signals, today announced that its advanced video transport system is now live at MinDig TV, the new Hungarian DVB-T digital terrestrial TV (DTT) service which went live on 1st December, 2008. This contract extends T-VIPS’ leadership in DTT and builds upon its success in the UK Digital Switch Off project.

MinDig TV is an advanced new DTT service, offering SD and HD channels encoded in MPEG-4. The service is distributed from transmitter sites in Budapest, Kabhegy and Szentes and is available to approximately 60% of Hungarian households.

“The T-VIPS video transport system enables us to make the most of our own nation-wide IP network to gain all the cost and flexibility advantages of IP contribution and distribution,” says Róbert Szvétecz, CTO, Antenna Hungaria. “By choosing T-VIPS as our video transport partner, we get the industry’s highest quality JPEG2000 and MPEG-4 contribution and distribution in a system that is powerful yet simple to operate and manage.”

The DTT system designed by T-VIPS for Antenna Hungaria includes its award-winning JPEG2000 video compression technology for the contribution of live video to the Budapest media centre. Lab tests have proven that the use of high-quality and low-latency JPEG2000 contribution can save up to 10% bandwidth on the final MPEG-4 transmission to the home, providing the opportunity to increase revenues through the addition of extra services.
