SES Americom Launches IPTV Service for Telcos
SES Americom has begun offering centralized IPTV service over satellites for phone companies entering the video business. The high-end digital video service, known as "IP Prime," is designed to enable telcos to bundle standard definition and high-definition TV (HDTV) with their DSL high-speed data and voice services. SES said the National Rural Telecom Coop has already signed a preliminary agreement to test the service early next year. Scientific-Atlanta is also participating in the venture. S-A said it will supply 140 MPEG-4 Part 10 encoders to help SES Americom deliver the video signals. SES Americom will also use S-A's "ROSA" network management system for network and equipment monitoring and control.
