Greenfield announced the Packetry II GH8000 reference design system, a purpose-built 1RU Metro Ethernet switch
May 2, 2006
SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Greenfield Networks, a leader in world-class Ethernet switch silicon technology, announced the Packetry II GH8000 reference design system, a purpose-built 1RU Metro Ethernet switch supporting 24GbE plus two 10GbE ports with unmatched wire-speed performance, per-subscriber quality-of-service (QoS) and Triple Play service capabilities. Powered by the award-winning Packetry II platform, the industry's most integrated and widely deployed Metro Ethernet switching silicon, the GH8000 is a complete reference design that can significantly reduce development time and enable OEMs to deliver carrier-grade systems for cost-effective Metro Ethernet services over IP/MPLS networks.
The GH8000 delivers wire-speed switching performance with a maximum forwarding rate of 72 Mpps. The platform features 24 copper Gigabit Ethernet and two 10GbE XFP ports in a compact 1RU form factor. GH8000 delivers robust Layer 2/3/4 packet processing features and capabilities such as expandable tables and buffering, IPv4, IPv6, MPLS/VPLS/H-VPLS, QinQ, and VLAN translation. GH8000 supports scalable per-subscriber hierarchical QoS critical for enabling Triple Play services. Its advanced traffic management capabilities allows service providers to introduce new services such as high-definition IPTV, multi-megabit Internet access, and voice over IP.
The GH8000 reference design platform is available today. To enable customers to quickly bring their systems to market, the GH8000 is provided with the Packetry API running either WindRiver VxWorks(TM) or Linux. In addition, IP Infusion ZebOS(TM) Advanced Routing Suite software is fully verified and supported.
