NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT - News), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today introduced the industry's highest density and most interoperable VDSL2/ADSL2plus convergence solution for central office (CO) applications. The second-generation Accelity-2 chipset delivers downstream speeds beyond 140 megabits per second (Mbps) and is targeted at triple-play voice, video and data equipment such as digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs), digital loop carriers (DLCs), and remote terminals. Applications include advanced broadband-enabled services including delivering television programming over Internet Protocol (IPTV), video-on-demand, and online gaming. Alcatel-Lucent has selected Accelity-2 for its ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) DSL products for deployments in Europe and elsewhere. The company has also secured North American and Asian design-wins with Calix, Huawei, NEC, Schmid Telecom, and ZTE.
Accelity-2 can also be used with the company's integrated VDSL2 client-side gateway devices to provide an optimized end-to-end solution that provides operators with the higher speeds and extended reach needed to deliver multiple high-definition television (HDTV) channels to their subscriber base. (See related press release that was issued today.)
"Conexant was the first to deliver a VDSL2-compliant chip, and we've again leveraged our deep understanding of xDSL technologies to deliver an industry-leading, next-generation solution for advanced broadband access applications," said Akram Atallah, senior vice president and general manager of Conexant's Broadband Access business. "Our new VDSL2 CO chipset provides operators and manufacturers with superior performance, and the lowest total system cost available today. We will continue to focus on developing evolutionary solutions that further drive the proliferation of broadband and fiber access deployments globally."
