ATHENS, Greece -- Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd (Huawei) today announced that it is the sole winner of a bid to build an IP DSLAM broadband access and broadband bearer Metro Ethernet network for HELLENIC TELECOMMUNICATIONS ORGANIZATION SA (OTE). The announcement marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration between OTE and Huawei.
Up till now, this contract is the biggest in OTE’s IP DSLAM broadband access and Metro Ethernet network construction. According to this contract, Huawei will provide OTE with ADSL2+IP DSLAM access equipment of 200,000-line capacity and Metro Ethernet equipment to build approximately one hundred nodes in Greece’s two largest cities, Athens and Thesalonniki. Based on this new network, OTE can provide its residential users with high-speed internet access service now, and IPTV, Triple Play services in the future. It can also provide Ethernet private-line service to group customers, such as government, enterprises, banks, etc. Winning the bid makes Huawei the major vendor chosen by OTE to construct and expand its broadband IP DSLAM and bearer-layer Metro Ethernet network over the next three years.
Huawei beat several famous international vendors to obtain 100% share of this project, which demonstrates Huawei’s strength in the IP DSLAM broadband access and Metro Ethernet network field. Huawei has launched over 22 million IP DSLAM lines, and currently ranks No. 1 in the world. Huawei’s Metro Ethernet solution is also selected by many top operators and deployed all over the world.
