RAD's new Optimux-1551 extends SDH network services

TEL AVIV -- RAD Data Communications has introduced its new Optimux-1551, which is designed to reduce capital and operating expenditures by combining the high capacity of SDH add-drop multiplexers (ADMs) with the simplicity, low cost and small size of a terminal multiplexer.

"The Optimux-1551 is especially suited for extending SDH network services toward remote locations such as industrial areas and business parks," explains Orly Nahum, Optimux Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications. "An ideal choice for delivering multiple E1 services, Optimux-1551 units can be deployed in point-to-point applications, connecting two sites over fiber or copper," she adds. "Alternatively, service providers can use the product to deliver E1 services to multiple customers."

ADMs are typically employed by service providers with SDH networks running over highway or railway fiber infrastructure and want to extend them to remote customers. "The Optimux1551 was designed especially for such applications, avoiding the unnecessary complexity and expenses associated with deploying high-end ADMs in point-to-network connections," states Nahum. The product provides connectivity for 63 E1 tributary lines for distances up to 80 km (50 miles).

Easy to install, maintain and operate, the Optimux-1551 requires little training or expertise. As a plug-and-play unit, it allows carriers to extend the benefits of SDH networks to the customer premises or central office, in a quick and inexpensive manner.

A unique feature of the Optimux-1551 is its optional 63 E1 redundancy module, which provides protection for the tributary channels, as is available for the uplink and the system. "Since redundancy can be configured per individual E1 tributary channel, a differential priority level can be assigned, so that, for example, link switching will be triggered only by failure of a higher priority line," Nahum continues.

"Conversely, high priority channels will not be disrupted by failure of an individual low priority channel," she notes. "This higher service level can be offered to customers at an added cost for increased revenue."
