STOCKHOLM -- Proximion, a leading provider of modules and subsystems based on Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs), has together with its Spanish partner AMS Technologies, received an order of Proximion's Optical Layer Monitor system WISTOM? from a research institute in Spain.

WISTOM's unique optical performance monitoring capabilities allows it to detect, locate, and isolate faults accurately and quickly in optical networks. It is available as a standalone or embedded unit and is based on a proprietary, no moving parts, extremely fast scanning filter. Combined with WISTOM Monitor, Proximon's advanced operations software, network operators can remotely access each WISTOM? unit and thereby get a complete picture of their optical layer status.

"There is a growing need for fast and accurate optical layer monitoring to facilitate cost-effective DWDM network management. The discussions with our customer, playing in the forefront of WDM networks, has further confirmed that view", says Stefan Ekman, CEO of Proximion.

"Thanks to Proximion's High Tech solution, we won the competition and we are sure this is the first step of a prosperous opportunity for AMS. Network management is for sure at top of the added value activity list, which our customers are targeting even under depressed market conditions", says Dr Ing Alberto Segreto, Managing Director, Italy and Spain, AMS Technologies S.r.l.

"Since DWDM networks are carrying more and more mission critical information, building a secure and robust network is a clear competitive edge for network operators providing high bandwidth, high quality services. The Research institutes test bed is focusing on evaluating the next generation of DWDM with WISTOM as an integral part of that system. We have received significant interest for WISTOM in similar applications and as a result we anticipate more orders within the upcoming months", continues Stefan Ekman.
