MONTREAL -- Positron, Marconi Communications Optical Networks Corp., and Marconi Communications, Inc. ("Marconi") have finalized an Agreement whereby Positron has purchased the assets to and has been granted a license from Marconi to manufacture, support and sell the MAS SONET product line. Positron has re-launched this product in a new division called Positron Networks.

With worldwide deployments at tens-of-thousands of nodes, the MAS SONET multi-services platform was developed in 1995 under the OSIRIS brand name by Positron Fiber Systems (PFS), a division of Positron. When PFS was acquired by RELTEC Corporation ("RELTEC") in 1998, the platform was marketed under the OSR label and then under the MAS label following Marconi's purchase of RELTEC in 1999. Throughout the product's history, Positron has always been the manufacturer.

"The success and industry acceptance of the OSIRIS product has exceeded even our expectations," said Reginald Weiser, President & CEO of Positron Inc. "We are excited about reassuming the lead role for the product and we are very pleased by our customers' overwhelming support of this agreement. We are open for new business."

Additionally, Positron has assumed Marconi's existing warranty, service, and support commitments for the installed base of MAS customers.

"This is truly good news for operators with large investments of MAS systems," said Philippe Gagnon, Director of Network Engineering, of Teleglobe Canada. "Teleglobe was introduced to MAS back in the early days of Positron Fiber Systems. Positron is an excellent choice to ensure the forward continuity of the product."

Positron is planning announcements on Positron's TAC-Plus support services, its extended warranty program and its product release roadmap.
