Sycamore-sponsored startup to focus on high-capacity Internet transport

BANGALORE, India -- Entering the fast-growing market for intelligent optical networking, Tejas Networks was launched today to pioneer the development of innovative intelligent optical networking products for the global market and to provide services for the emerging telecommunications market in the Asian sub-continent. Tejas is a unique technology startup in India that will address the growing need for network equipment designed to handle high-capacity data and Internet traffic.

Focusing on the development of optical networking systems, Tejas will leverage the expertise of its seasoned management team, including chief technology officer Dr. Kumar N. Sivarajan, who is a world-renowned expert in the field of optical networking. Dr. Sivarajan, formerly an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, is coauthor of "Optical Networks: A Practical Perspective," one of the telecommunication industry's authoritative works on optical networking. The market for the types of products that Tejas will develop and distribute includes both the existing telecommunications base and the emerging network backbone providers

In addition to product development, Tejas (pronounced 'tay-jus'; of Sanskrit origin, it means 'brilliance,' or 'radiance') will also provide design and deployment services for building high-speed optical networks in the rapidly expanding Indian and Asia-Pacific markets. According to a recent industry analysis, India's telecommunications market is one of the fastest growing in the world. Tejas has signed a distributor agreement for the distribution of Sycamore Networks' products in the region and will also build a Center of Excellence in the region to support Sycamore's products.
