Eatontown, N.J. -– Opnext, Inc., a global leader in high-performance optical components, today announced it has extended its line of hot-pluggable 10G optical subsystems with the introduction of the OP10SM-LR2 to the Optical Port Slide-In Module (OP10SM) Series. The OP10SM-LR2 supports applications at 1550nm up to 80km of fiber, and like each module in Opnext’s 10G OP10SM Series, it maintains the SFI-4 system interface standard. The OP10SM family of subsystems provides system makers a low-risk, future-proof design option.

“In today’s challenging business environment, system providers are constantly looking for ways to reduce the development costs of their systems,” said Rich Zoccolillo, vice president of the Opnext SubSystems Business Unit. “Opnext continues to offer flexible, high-performance solutions for optical networking system makers, tailored to lower design and manufacturing costs by developing discrete components into integrated subsystems. We provide our customers with unmatched design expertise, freeing up their internal designers to concentrate on their core technologies.”

Opnext’s subsystems address optical applications in both the telecommunications and data communications markets, such as local area networks, storage area networks, metropolitan area networks and wide area networks. The company’s integrated subsystems are built using modules and components from Opnext’s extensive product portfolio. The hot-pluggable 10G optical module provides the essential attributes of a 10G XFP module, prior to general availability in the marketplace. The OP10SM product family enables increased port density, while minimizing first system cost by shipping only the optical interface necessary for initial deployment. The modules can be easily inserted in the field into an active system, and support VSR, SR, IR2, and LR2 reaches. The OP10SM is available today in all of these applications. Future versions include DWDM, Very -long-reach, and G.709 OTN processing features.
