ONI Opens R&D Center in RTP

SAN JOSE, Calif., and DURHAM, N.C. -- ONI Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: ONIS) today announced the opening of its Lightwave Design Center in Research Triangle Park (RTP), N.C., to hasten development of all-optical access, transport, and network management features in the company's Dynamic Transport System (DTS) family of products, designed for metro area service providers.

The Lightwave Design Center currently hosts a core staff of 25 software designers and test engineers specializing in optical transport and data technologies, such as ATM and IP. ONI intends to establish a permanent facility to expand product development, sales, and field engineering activities on the east coast.
