SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Infinera Corporation today announced that OnFiber Communications has deployed the Infinera DTN optical platform for dense wave-division multiplexing (DWDM) and bandwidth management in multiple metro optical networks throughout the U.S. These networks support OnFiber’s Wavelength, Ethernet, and SONET services.

OnFiber provides high-bandwidth connectivity to many of the world’s largest corporations as well as global carriers and Internet giants. OnFiber selected Infinera because the DTN’s “Digital Optical Networking” architecture advances OnFiber’s ability to rapidly deliver high-speed connectivity services. Additionally, Infinera’s DTN enables simpler optical engineering and operations.

“OnFiber’s customers require high bandwidth solutions delivered quickly and with rock solid connectivity,” said Danny Bottoms, president and CEO, OnFiber Communications, Inc. “Our success comes from the fact that we can provide very high levels of flexibility, speed, and service quality. The advanced technology of the Infinera DTN is an important component of our total network solution package.”

The Infinera DTN is the first optical telecommunications system based on photonic integrated circuits (PICs). PICs represent a significant milestone for telecom because they enable multiple wavelengths of light, carrying hundreds of gigabits per second of telecommunications traffic, to be managed digitally, rather than as analog waves (By contrast, conventional WDM products, built without the benefit of PICs, use analog techniques for many networking functions.) With the Infinera DTN, the optical network joins the voice, video, and mobile wireless networks as having shifted from an analog to a digital operational model.

“OnFiber continues to be the innovative leader in metro optical networks. As a result, the company carries mission-critical traffic for some of the world’s largest Internet properties and many respected global organizations,” said Jagdeep Singh, CEO of Infinera. “We’re pleased to be a significant part of their advanced optical network.”
