CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Packeteer(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:PKTR), a leading provider of Internet application infrastructure systems, today announced that the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and its technology subsidiary, the Securities Industry Automation Corporation (SIAC) have adopted a PacketShaper(R) solution for NYSE Common Access Point(TM) (NYSE CAP(TM)). NYSE CAP is a next-generation extranet that serves as a universal bridge between NYSE's business services and the networks of its customers. With Packeteer's PacketShaper, SIAC can automatically allocate and manage bandwidth on the network to ensure a high level of performance for all NYSE customers.

"The first implementation of PacketShaper was in connection with NYSE CAP traffic to wireless, hand held computers used by brokers on the Exchange trading floor," said Michael Lamberg, senior technical director, Communications Engineering Planning and Development, SIAC. "Our experience with PacketShaper's capabilities and performance to support wireless communications has been very positive, and we plan to extend the product to other mission-critical application such as orders to the NYSE's SuperDOT(R) system."
