MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- NOVILIT, Inc., the leader in communications protocol implementation technologies and services, today announced the networking industry’s first release and commercial availability of the .03 pre-ratification version of the IEEE 802.17, Resilient Packet Ring (RPR).Novilit, which invented the Novilit Protocol AnyWare (NPA) development environment, used its own leading edge technology to develop a full implementation of the 802.17 protocol stack and decode in less than 45 days. Using more traditional means and methods of writing and implementing communications protocols, the project would have taken nine months or more to complete. Novilit’s release of version .03 of 802.17 is a full-featured implementation of the IEEE international standards organization’s work to date. Developed using Novilit’s core technology, the code offers performance and scalability that no other commercial vendor or implementation can match. The code is available for C++ implementations as well as Verilog, and will soon be available in Assembler. Developers can choose to embed the protocol in an FPGA, NPU, or General Purpose Processor (GPP), or in the future an ASIC. Because of the need for diverse developer customization and platform adoptions, the stack as delivered can be altered and implemented in a matter of days or weeks, not months as is traditionally the case. Universal interfaces offer rapid interfacing to customers’ unique systems, intellectual property, and key features. Novilit’s release of 802.17 hallmarks outstanding performance, and supports today’s high-end routing and switching requirements when implemented within any networking platform, including: high speed optical, core routers and switches, broadband, and wireless systems. As with all stacks created using Novilit’s NPA development environment, the 802.17 protocol stack and decode is completely RTOS neutral and can operate and interoperate with and between any commercial or proprietary OS.
