Nortel Cables CWDM

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT) has unveiled a new product for cable operators that will work with existing Nortel Networks optical solutions to enable new broadband optical services to schools, local businesses and other enterprises while leveraging existing fiber.

Building on its broad line of optical transport solutions for the cable market, Nortel Networks has introduced Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5000 CWDM (coarse wavelength division multiplexing) Enclosure, an extension to the OPTera Metro 5000 family that addresses access fiber infrastructure limitations for cable operators.

The CWDM Enclosure, announced at the Western Cable Show in Anaheim, Calif., is designed to work with Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5000 Multiservice Platform to provide a cost-effective, scalable solution for cable operators. This solution is designed to increase network flexibility in delivering Gigabit Ethernet, storage connectivity, and other optical broadband services to customer premises.

Cable multiple service operators (MSOs) can use the CWDM Enclosure outdoors to aggregate multiple private CWDM optical channels from various customer premises over a single fiber pair. It can also be placed in basements of multi-tenant buildings to provide end customers with fully private, multi-protocol, optical wavelength services.
