Could a techy replace The Governator?
2:05 PM -- It'll be two years before The Governator leaves office, but as the Mercury News puts it, it's never too early to speculate about whether California would elect a techy as governor in 2010.
Today, the paper is running a graphic listing details about four technology moguls who might -- might -- make a run for Sacramento. (Do you still count as a "mogul" if you've been fired?)
Two are obvious. Steve Westly and Steve Poizner have been elected to office before, and Poizner is California's current insurance commissioner. Their tech cred comes from eBay Inc. (Nasdaq: EBAY) and Snap Track, respectively. The latter invented GPS chips for cellphones and was a $1 billion buy for Qualcomm Inc. (Nasdaq: QCOM) in 2000.
The other two are "generating buzz," or so the paper tells us: Carly Fiorina, late of HP Inc. (NYSE: HPQ), and Meg Whitman, departing CEO of eBay.
The skinny is in an PDF file here.
