DEDHAM, Mass. -- NetPlane Systems, a leading global supplier ofportable networking protocol software and systems, today introduced thesecond phase of its carrier class, IP Routing software suite, OPTIRoute™BGP4. The BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) module, the predominantinterdomain routing protocol used between backbone IP networks, particularlythe Internet, builds on the interior gateway protocol OSPF introduced in thefirst OPTIRoute release. NetPlane will feature this solution May 7-10 atNetWorld+Interop (N+I) 2001 in Las Vegas at Booth #8335.

“Networking companies building core devices, such as optical switches orhigh speed routers, have limited options when it comes to getting an IProuting solution. They can either try to develop the software themselves –which can take several man-years as it is very complex, especially BGP4 – orthey can look to buy an off-the-shelf solution, none of which have beencarrier-class. NetPlane Systems, a proven software stack player, recognizedthat IP would transcend quickly from an enterprise technology, to astrategic necessity for the entire value chain. System OEMs targeting thecarrier space must have carrier-class routing functionality inside theirequipment. There’s definitely a market for the IP routing solution NetPlaneis offering. This latest product builds on an established reputation withtheir MPLS source code,” said John G. Metz, Executive VP, of SterlingResearch.
